Resources / 80/20 Redesigns

Real small-business websites, redesigned in about 2 hours each. Not an agency rebuild: the fixes that do the most for customers. 80% of the improvement in 20% of the time.

For owners who can't pay for an agency, and designers who want to see which fixes matter most. Each teardown shows what held the original back, what I changed and why, how both score on the same 100-point checklist, and what I'd still fix with more time.

These are unsolicited concepts. I'm not affiliated with the businesses, and all trademarks belong to their owners.

How the scoring works

  • One checklist, 100 points, applied the same way to every original homepage and every concept.
  • Most checks are yes or no, so anyone can check a score against the screenshots.
  • A script runs the technical checks: tap-to-call links, sideways scroll, text size, button size, broken links, Lighthouse mobile performance (median of three runs) and axe accessibility issues.
  • I judge the rest from screenshots of the homepage at 1440px and 390px wide, and write a one-line reason for each.
  • When in doubt, the point goes to the original site. The concept is scored by the same checks, so it can lose points too.
